First, decide what type of CD case you will be using. For this example, I will use a standard case. I check the circle with my choice and then hit the continue arrow:
Simple enough, right? The main workspace screen opens up and looks like this:
Notice it is clean, easy to see and understand what is there. If you click on the "choose template" choice, templates of backgrounds come up in thumbnails to choose from:
While the templates provided are sufficient to ensure a professional-looking product, note that you can download additional templates or you can even use your own art (including a picture of the couple) to make the wedding CD favor even more personalized.
Let's do the CD front first. For this demonstration, let's use our own image just to show how effortless this program really is to create your CD favor. Click at the top where it says "View Front Cover" then click on the "use image" button. Now browse for where your picture is stored on your computer; when you find it, highlight it, and hit OK.
Your picture should appear in the box on the screen. This is what your front cover looks like so far. Now, you can either add your text using the software editor, or you can have it already placed into picture as part of the image file that you have selected to use. Using the CD cover editor is probably the easier method of the two. You simply click on the button that says "cover text" and type in the words you want to add. Note that if you put them in the area that reads "Front Cover Title" the words go to the Top and if you put them in the "Front Cover Text" spot they go lower (you can adjust the text up and down on the face of the project by adding or subtracting returns). Adding your text is easy, there is a huge selection of fonts to choose from to fit any style (formal or casual) that you are trying to create.
The front cover is already done and it looks really nice. Now let's do the back cover. Select "view back cover". By following the same steps as we used for the front cover, we can put a picture on the back. Notice how on my example picture the lines of the heart actually go over the print guides where my spine text will be.
Click the checkmark next to the words "extend image over spines" and your picture will resize to fit into the actual back cover area.
To put colors on the spines, while working on the front or back covers, click on the "choose color" option and selected a color that matches the wedding colors. Now, type in the song choices or track information.
Oops! As you can see, with the words and the picture there is a lot of activity on the back cover. If I had selected a more subtle picture, like a rose or a daisy or something, this would be no problem; however, with this picture some of the guests may have a hard time reading the tracks. In this situation it is best to remove the picture and just have a nice coordinated color for the back cover. By simply clicking the "clear image" button, the CD cover editor software removes the picture. Also, since this is a wedding CD favor, I am going to select a calligraphy style font and make the text dark blue on the lighter blue background. These small changes will give the project a more professional look and elegant feel.
Because the software is created to work with actual CD labels sold by the popular label-making companies (including Avery, Neato, PC Line, and PressIt) you can take your creativity one step further and make the wedding CD something special. Select "View Disc". You should see a plain CD on the screen that has the same color attached to it as you had on your spines of your cover.
The software has automatically matched the CD label to the background color and you can now just simply add text - or you can take it one step further by selecting the "choose image" option.
For this example I am going to use the picture we ended up removing from the back cover. Then, select "Disc Text" to enter information on the wedding CD face. In this example, I want all the printing under the picture so I will leave the area labeled "Disc Title" empty.
Now, if you have your text and your picture in place and are ready to see the finished product, click ok.
Wow! The project looks great and we have created a unique and personalized wedding CD favor from start to finish in less than an hour. In fact, I am sure that when you are done designing your own wedding CD favor the finished product will look so good no one will even know you didn't pay a professional designer to create it!
Keep in mind, since you have seen for yourself how easy this CD cover editor and label software can be, that there are lots of other uses for it.
